Robert (Bob) Berman is a highly respected Dunkley School of Music piano teacher.  His musical journey began at the prestigious Berklee College of Music, where he majored in music theory and composition.  After completing his studies, Bob returned to his roots in Philadelphia, pursuing further formal training in piano performance.

As a piano major, Bob earned a degree in music education from West Chester University’s esteemed School of Music. His training was robust, as he studied piano with Dr. Robert Pennington and piano pedagogy at the master’s level under the mentorship of Dr. Paul Blair. Bob showcased his talents at his senior recital by performing a Beethoven Sonata and the complex Schumann Fantasy Suite. These pieces highlighted his technical prowess, interpretive skills, and profound emotional depth.

With an impressive 30 years of teaching experience, Bob has successfully guided students across diverse skill levels.  He teaches everyone from absolute beginners to early advanced pianists. Moreover, his teaching repertoire is extensive, covering various genres and styles, including classical piano, popular music, and jazz. In addition to these genres, he offers comprehensive lessons in music theory, composition, jazz harmony, and improvisation. This diverse exposure provides students with a well-rounded musical education that equips them with essential skills for their musical journey.

The Dunkley School of Music is delighted to have Robert Berman as a piano teacher.  His philosophy centers on empowering his students and equipping them with the skills needed to become their own teachers.  By actively promoting independence in their learning process, students have the confidence to pursue their musical journeys.  This passion then continues long after completing their time under his guidance.  He emphasizes critical thinking and self-directed practice. He encourages them to set personal goals, explore diverse musical styles, and reflect on their progress.  This approach empowers them to take ownership of their education and fosters a lifelong love for music.  By cultivating independence, Bob prepares his students to continue their musical journeys long after leaving his guidance.  His commitment to nurturing a lifelong passion for music is evident in every lesson he instructs.
