Ellie Chavez is an accomplished piano teacher at the Dunkley School of Music in Meridian, Idaho. She was born and raised in Japan, where she grew up in a vibrant musical household that profoundly influenced her artistic journey. Her father, who enjoyed playing the piano, often filled their home with music, further inspiring Ellie to explore the arts. Meanwhile, her mother, a distinguished classical singer and conductor, imparted the elegance and discipline of structured musical forms. As a child, Ellie immersed herself in the beautiful symphony of sounds that emerged from daily rehearsals, concerts, and lively discussions about music. This early exposure to diverse musical genres inspired her passion for sound and creativity, shaping her into the artist she is today.
At age five, she began her journey into music by taking piano lessons from her mother, Atsuko Kajiwara, who instilled in her a deep appreciation for the art of playing. It wasn’t long before she discovered her passion for polyphony, captivated by the intricate harmonies and counterpoint of Johann Sebastian Bach’s compositions. As she ventured into her teenage years, her fascination with music deepened, and she dedicated much of her free time to transcribing pieces by the renowned gospel fusion vocal group Take 6. These complex vocal arrangements allowed her to fine-tune her ear and further fueled her love for blending various musical styles.
After nurturing and raising three musically inclined children in the vibrant community of Boise, Idaho, she decided to pursue her musical passions. Her journey began with private lessons from the esteemed Mr. Robert Hatvani at Dunkley Music, where she honed her skills and deepened her understanding of piano techniques. Eager to expand her knowledge further, she later enrolled at Boise State University, where she studied under the accomplished Dr. Del Parkinson. Her dedication and hard work culminated in earning a Bachelor of Music in piano performance in 2024.
Currently, she plays a vital role in the music at Morning Star Christian Church, where she serves as the choir accompanist. With her guidance and expertise, she invites others, especially her students, to dive into the rich and inspiring world of harmony, fostering a love for music and creativity in all who join her. Whether you are a beginner or looking to refine your skills, with Ellie, you’ll embark on an exciting journey of exploration and discovery in music!
